I’m still in college but have a good basis for filing tax return. I wanted to start a small business on the side to generate some income to pay for my outrageous student loans. I was wondering if you can steer me in the right direction of how to build such an idea.

What are typical startup costs?
What are basic tools needed?
Can I work out of my basement?
How do I market?

Any information will do

Hey!

I was just wondering what are some good businesses ideas for a website?

I’m really good at music but I’m not sure what I should do.. I could give lessons or make songs for people easily.

I just want an idea that is cheep startup cost and can potentially be very profitable in time. Please help.

THANK YOU!!!

The first thing you need to think about in your online business plan is what is your core business? What niche market you wish to venture in? Your cannot diversify into too many businesses unless you have the resources and expertise. So, stay very focus, decide on what to sell, whether products or services.

Basically there are two types of products that you can sell on the web. The first type is the physical product and the second type is the digital product where people can download from the web. For the physical products, you need to deal with management issues like procurement, inventory, order fulfillment, invoicing, online payment and products delivery. But for small timers, you can always join many affiliate programs available online and you can save all the troubles doing all those things, and save cost as well. Although can only earn commissions, the income can be potentially big if you can run successful affiliate programs like Amazon.com’s associate program or Google’s AdSense.

If you do not wish to procure products from suppliers, you can also create your own products. The easiest and the most suitable products to sell online are digital products available for download. Some of the digital products you can create by yourself are as follows:

E-book- people are willing to pay for your e-book if it is interesting, useful and informative, and sell less than those books written by renown authors. In order to create a good e-book, you need to have a reasonably good knowledge about the topic in your niche market, and have sound writing skill too. You can always engage a freelance editor to edit your book. You can encode your book in a digital format that is easily distributable in the web, and this is normally the Acrobat pdf format. You need a pdf converter or pdf writer to convert your doc files into pdf files. Some of those writers are freeware, some are shareware and some are commercial software. You can click the following link to download the pdf writers: http://www.download3000.com/acrobat-writer-downloads.html.

Music and Song- if you have talent in composing music writing songs, you can make them available for download on the web by charging some fees. You can accept payments using PayPal.

Video Clips- you can also produce interesting and informative video clips or movie clips for download, collecting fees in the process. You can create animated clips using Macromedia Flash or other programs.

Information-in this age of knowledge economy, information is becoming more important. If you have conducted market research and holds important data related to a certain market, there might be people or companies who are willing to pay you for the information.

Clip Art- If you are a good artist, you can create clip art images for sale online. You may also design logos for other companies.

Others-there are other types of digital products such as e-zines, newsletter or other information or news-based products. You earn subscription fees from registered users or subscribers. If you are an academician, you can aslo sell your thesis papers or dissertations. Besides, you can also run online classes by charging a fee.

I really want to buy a business however i don’t have the start up capital. From my understanding financial institutions will not lend money for this without some substantial security which i do not have. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have extensive experience in the running of clubs and pubs from every angle and i am looking at opening a lounge bar in a new area with a substantial market so as I’m sure you could imagine the startup would be quite extensive.

don’t know

Hey guys,

I have recently decided to start work on a startup video game design company. This is my first time ever trying to get a business together, and probably will be more of a hobby at first, but would enjoy if i could make some money off of it in the long term (obviously).

My question is, what is the best way to begin something like this? I have chosen a core language to start with (XNA using C#) and am focusing on freeware or shareware titles (such as Milkshape) to aid in production. I also have a couple of interested programmers and 1 or two designers, but obviously need several more. What is a good business model for this line of work?
BTW i have a domain registered for the website at http://www.atlasartisans.com/, as well as a cms client set up on the backend for developers

MY PERSONAL OPINION :
- KEEP AWAY FROM FIRST SHOOTER GAMES - THERE ARE LOTS OF THEM ON THE MARKET AND THEY ARE DOMINATED BY BIG PLAYERS

- AGAIN I THINK BICYCLE RACE SIMULATION WOULD BE INTERESTING - NOT SINGLE ONE OF THE MARKET THAT I’M AWARE OF - LIKE TOUR THE FRANCE MANAGER (YOU HAVE TO LICENCE THE NAME AND THAT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE SO YOU CAN GO WITH GENERIC NAME LIKE BICYCLE RACE MANAGER) - YOU NEED TO HIRE CYCLISTS, TRAIN THEM ETC. - THERE ARE LOT OF BICYCLE GUYS AROUND AND NOT SINGLE GAME FOR THEM AS FAR AS I’M AWARE OF - SCENERY CAN BE GREAT - GIVES YOU LOTS OF CHOICES - YOU CAN EVEN TRY TO GET SOME MONEY FROM TREK AND OTHER BIKE MANUFACTURERS TO SHOW OFF THEIR BIKES MAYBE IF YOU GET GOOD ADVERTISING GUY TO COVER SOME DEVELOPING EXPENSES - YOU SHOULD DO THAT FIRST THING -
WHEN GAME IS PARTIALY DONE TRY TO GET SOME VENTURE CAPITAL MONEY IF YOU CAN - DO NOT EVEN TRY TO DO ADVERTISING AND VENTURE CAPITAL POSSIBLY BY YRSELF - FIND GOOD GUY(S) WHO KNOW(S) THAT JOB - THEY HAVE CONNECTIONS AND WORK ON PERCENTAGE OF MONEY COLLECTED SO YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE - YOU CAN ONLY GAIN MONEY - TALKING FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE - YOU SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON THAT MOSTLY BUT NEED SOMETHING TO SHOW THEM SO GAME SHOULD BE PARTIALLY DEVELOPED BEFORE YOU START TALKING TO THEM -

- OTHERWISE YOU ARE ENTERING CROWDED AND EXPENSIVE GAME BUDDY - BIG ONES PUT 20-25 MILLION DOLLARS JUST TO DEVELOP GAME NOT COUNTING ADVERTISING AND PRODUCTION COSTS

GOOD LUCK BUDDY

I live in a trailer court, I have computer and motorcycle mechanic background. I am trying to figure out some off the wall business idea. I have seen some of the ads on the net, but most of them are MLM’s or selling a particular product. I wouldn’t mind creating my own product, I am limit with space, finances, and currently my mind is drawing blanks. Looking for something with a low startup cost. Right now I am mainly looking for ideas that I haven’t thought of.

Find something you know about, are passionate about and/or create your own product and promote it on-line.

As a motorcycle enthusiast - it could be a newsletter that advises on the best or mechanically stable motorcycles for new buyers. Or, you could provide mechanical advice on-line.

It doesn’t have to be something related to your working background. It could be something you consider a hobby. But it must be something you enjoy doing. Note: working for yourself takes time, discipline and commitment.

I’m starting up a self-employed business. I have a sound business plan which has been reviewed by 4 persons in the field. My startup expenses are to be $2,500 and monthly expenses $4,000. The bank advised me to simply get a business credit card instead of a loan (they don’t do business loans under $100k anyway.) But my credit score is terrible so they said I need a "strong" co-signer. But I don’t know anyone who can do this for me! Any ideas on where I can find someone or go?

if you don’t already know someone, you’re not likely to find anyone, at least under favorable (for you) terms

a sound business plan should include financing it. i get the sense you hurried past that part.

i am trying to start a business, i have a great idea, but i dont know how to write a business plan….i need one to get a loan…if you have a template or a know of a website that does, please share…

Use this basic checklist to make sure all the important steps are taken before you launch your new venture. This business checklist will make sure that you cross all your t’s and dot all your i’s before your business launch.

I have an idea for a new drink. Where can I find a sample business plan for a company that has already done this (like an energy drink company). I don’t want to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks, Justin

The Small Business Administration can help you with that. www.sba.gov Also, you can search the web for sample business plans and use what parts that you need from them.
