Please dont say babysitting, dog sitting, do chores, do surveys, mow lwns, shovel driveways or any other stupid things like that and also dont say go to entrepreneur.com

A few people i know used to buy items in bulk, named clothing mainly and because of their high orders managed to get quite a good price on them. They then put them on ebay slightly undercutting anyone elses price but getting enough to make a profit. The problem with this is the constant work that you have to do like packaging and sending the items off. Another thing is learning to good web design skills and getting enough people to visit your site to make money from advertising from google or similar companies. Other than that the only way you are going to make any money as a teenager is to get a job and work as much overtime as you can get. Whatever you end up doing you will have to work damn hard if you want it to be successful.

Need help and ideas finding the right low cost business to start

The best home business that you can be sure is not a scam is one that you start yourself. It will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.

The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.

Dan Ramsey in his book "101 Best Home Businesses" has a chapter on how to find YOUR best home business. He suggests these 10 steps:

1. List 5 things you do best
2. List how others would benefit from what you do best
3. Find out how to give people what they want
4. Learn the value of your services to others
5. Find out who else offers similar services
6. Learn from the successes of others
7. Learn from the failures of others
8. Plan your own success
9. Make low cost mistakes
10. Enjoy what you do and how you do it

He then made suggestions on the best home businesses according to type. Here are a few of them:

Best Businesses Using Craft or Physical Skills
- antique restoration
- auto detail service
- carpet cleaning business
- errand/delivery service
- housecleaning business

Best Service Businesses
- bed and breakfast operator
- caregiver
- catering service
- senior day care center
- tutoring service

Best Professional Businesses
- desktop publisher
- magazine writer
- import/export service
- income tax preparation service
- event planner

I see a lot of startup e-mail accounts using either a @yahoo.com or a @gmail.com. In your opinion, what's better for a startup business? Thank you in advance.

Your name something mature but not something lik hardworker@yahoo.com that is trying to hard something like SaraL.Brooke@yahoo.com with you name and middle anital and last name or family members name. Or like your name and an old house address like Kara12456@yahoo.com or make up a number with 5 digits. Good luck hope that you get your job.

I am just curious and interested in knowing what these may be and what your experiences with such have been. Thank you…

Well, Every home based business is going to have some selling involved rather it's for a product your selling or a service your offering. There are a lot of good Home based businesses that have little start up costs and that are not scams.
I can refer you over to a really good article that I think you should read on home based business opportunities that have over half a dozen different industries to look into that might meet what your criteria is.
As to your detailed message enquiry, I've had incredible experiences with the telecommunications industry. I help people save money on services that they are already using and paying for, and offer them services that they don't have. Sometimes they ask me about services that the company I'm involved in has, and I help them get those new services for less. It's different then selling, because in most cases, it's services that they already have. I'm just able to cut their bills down, so in essence, I'm simply helping them save money.
There are many different industries that are like this. I chose the telecommunications industry because everyone uses and needs it. My experience with this is it's been incredible financially as well as spirtiually.
So that's been my experience.

I live in New York City and I am looking to work for a small start up business to understand what goes into getting a small business off the ground. Would like it to be tech/internet based, but any help is appreciated. Are there websites that will post these types of opportunities? Any other thoughts on how to find a job like this in NYC (other than typical places like Monster)? Thanks,

I have a great idea for a retail business but can't really rely on a bank loan. Does anyone know of a small business network that may have tips on raising the needed money to begin?

I don't know where your from but here in Ontario we have this thing where the government will give you $3000 + a mentor to start your own business. For young people anyways.

You should do some research and see if you have that where you live.

Good luck!

I am a US Army veteran and would like to open up my own barbershop. I am looking for a way to obtain about $2500 - without taking out a true loan (my credit is not the best from when I was younger) …

Does anyone know of any programs out there that may be able to help me get going?

Thanks

Go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to discuss programs for veterans.

Assuming a small, offline retail shop how much do most small business owners make each year? Any statistics available? Any real-world insights?

it would depend on the type of product/service you provide and what your overhead costs are.

keep this in mind…it is common for any start up business to loose money in the first 2 years.
